Bethel #50 of Florissant, Missouri, was chartered on June 18, 1960. They currently meet at Mizpah Masonic Temple, 12030 New Halls Ferry Road. Bethel Guardians of Bethel #50 have included: Alice Hegwein, 1960-66, Ruth Ann Schantz, 1966-1967, Grace Mayer, 1967-1971, Elizabeth "Libby" Alldredge, 1971-1975, Jackie Hinni, 1975-1977, Ann Tisdale, 1977-1988, Janet Lynch, 1988-1997, Jackie Etling, 1997-2000, Anne Robin, 2000-2005, Dorene Sutton, 2005-2009 and Janet Lynch, 2009-Present. Associate Bethel Guardians of Bethel #50 have included: Ray Beck, 1960-1962, Earl Linck, 1962-1970, Carroll Niemeyer, 1970-1973, Robert Cannon, 1973-1974, Earl Linck, 2/16/74-10/5/74, Earl Tisdale, 1974-1986, Kenneth Pinkley, 1986-1991, Earl Simpson, 1991-1995, and Larry Lynch, 1995-Present. Bethel No. 50 was organized in 1960, following the dedication of Mizpah Temple located on Halls Ferry Road near Lucas and Hunt. Mrs. Alice Hegwein and Mr. Ray Beck were guardian and Associate Guardian. The date was set and our beginning was April 2, 1960. On the afternoon of this important day, the life of Bethel 50 began when the First Council Members were installed by the Grand Guardian Council. The Grand Bethel installed the first Bethel Officers. Ruth Ann Schantz being the first Honored queen. On June 18th, Bethel 50 was chartered with 63 members. Through the years, we have continued many of the customs stated in 1950 including: honoring the other Masonic organizations, our parents, the Past Honored Queens and our Council. We have also kept busy with family picnics, church services, hayrides, welfare projects, slumber parties. banquets and many other activities. The first Majority Service was held in 1961 when Alyce Hegwein became the first Majority Member. During one of the terms this year, the Honored Queen received a gift of a stuffed yellow and brown dog, which started the custom of the Honored Queen's mascot. During only our second year, the one hundredth member was initiated. Our newspaper went to press and the Parents' Club was a welcome addition. Mr. Earl Linck became Dad Linck when he was installed Associate Guardian in 1962. During the years of 1965 to 1959, the installations took on a new look when the officers started wearing robes and the pin ceremony for the elected officers was begun. The Bethel Banner. designed by Mr. Kruenagel, was presented to the Bethel by the Parents' Club. After faithfully serving as Guardian for six years. Mom Hegwein expressed her desire to retire and Ruth Ann Schantz, the Bethel's first Honored Queen, was chosen to take her place. In 1967, a big change came when Mizpah Temple, the Bethel's home, was sold. Thanks to Paul Revere Lodge, we were not orphans for long and meetings took place there for two years. Another letter of resignation was received, this one from Mother Ruth in which she announced her plans for marriage and moving away from St. Louis. Mrs. Grace Mayer was to replace her. During 1968, the two Queens honored their parents and the parents of the future queens by presenting the Honored Queen's Parents Traveling Pins. Also at this time, the Charter was seen in a new setting when it was placed in a frame for easy viewing. The Bethel Newspaper was named the Jobie Jabber by Jan Niemeyer. The first meeting in the new Mizpah Masonic Temple was held on February 15, 1969. After much hard work on many Term's Projects, the Bethel was seen in new robes and displayed a new Altar cloth. In 1970, Mr. Carroll Niemeyer vas to replace Dad Linck as Associate Bethel Guardian. Also, during a term this year, the custom of having an Honored Queens' Photo album began) The next five years' brought many changes to our Bethel Council, including Libby Alldredge as Guardian, Bob Cannon as Associate Guardian, Earl Linck returning to his previous post as Associate Guardian and Earl Tisdale following in Dad Linck's shoes in 1974. In 1971, the brag bank tradition was begun and has passed down through the years. At the Official Visit that year, Bethel 50 initiated the largest number of young ladies in the state. The next five years brought many more changes as we had our First canoe trip. We also sang at Supreme Session in 1976, which was held in St. Louis when Idakatherine Schenk was installed as Supreme Guardian. These years brought other changes to our council when Jackie Hinni became Guardian in 1975 and Ann Tisdale in 1977. 1975 also brought the pinning of our first Casanova. Casanova Dances and accompanying ad books became the annual term's projects beginning in 1977. Also in 1977, Carol Schnur became the first Honored Queen to receive a quilt made by the Bethel. The summers of 1979 and 1980 brought many car washes to enable the Bethel to purchase new capes and crowns. Since 1980, we have held many prestigious awards. We have had the traveling Jobie Doll presented at many of our meetings and in 1980, Janet Westcott and Joyce Solari appeared in the newspaper with Mayor Eagan for the first Job's Daughters Appreciation Week. Ruth Weber was named Outstanding Honored Queen of 1980 and Pam Williams followed her lead by winning the award in 1982. Pam was also the first Miss Missouri Job's Daughter from Bethel 50. That year, she took the state to the top by being named as first runner up to Miss International Job's Daughter in 1981. We have also had Miss Elizabeth Lynch Biondo, Miss Missouri 1999-2000, who was selected as the second runner up to Miss International Job’s Daughter in 2000. In 1981, the Bethel began yet another tradition at Jane Spurgeon's installation. A beautiful opening ceremony was narrated by her sister, Kathie, as the Officers took chairs west of the Altar. During the summer of 1981, the Past Honored Queens' Club was formed and has had Progressive Dinners for the members, purchased a new Bethel Flag and softball equipment bag and served at luncheons and receptions. The Parents' Club has also bought many new robes and a lovely silver serving set. In 1984, Bethel 50 was thrilled when Ann Tisdale was elected Grand Marshal of the State of Missouri. She proceeded up the line and was installed as Grand Guardian in June of 1987. That year, Bethel 50 was well represented when Evelyn Weber was appointed as the Grand Director of Music. Jane Spurgeon was appointed to the Grand Bethel Committee. The Masonic Home Church Service was held in the Masonic Home in Kansas City for the first time ever. It was a special day for Mom "T" when Rev. Kathie Spurgeon Edmisson, a Majority Member of Bethel 50, gave the message of the day. Mom "T" served the GGC of Missouri as Grand Treasurer for many years. Earl Tisdale resigned as Associate Guardian and Ken Pinkley filled his shoes in 1985. Marie Singletary headed up the Miss Missouri Pageant that year at the Scottish Rite Temple in St. Louis. This was the first time that the pageant was held at a time other than Grand Session. The Pat on the Back Award was instituted in 1987-88 as a way of honoring those who so the extra step to make Job's Daughters a successful organization. It's a special honor for Bethel 50 to have five recipients of this award. Ann Tisdale, Jan Lynch, Earl Tisdale, Evelyn Weber and Jane Spurgeon have been honored for their time, effort and friendship given to our Order. Jan Lynch became the Guardian in 1988 and also had the big job of organizing the Miss Missouri Job's Daughter Pageant that year at the Masonic Temple on Lindell. On November 2, 1991, Earl Simpson joined our Bethel as Associate Bethel Guardian "just until you find someone to be the Associate Guardian." The young ladies that have called Bethel 50 home are all outstanding examples of the tenets of Job's Daughters. We have had many championship ritualists, talented musicians who have taken first place in competition and an excellent Bethel choir. They have given much support to Job's Daughters and we are proud of all of them. With their support and strength, Bethel 50 will continue to grow and flourish.
