About Bethel #65

On March 19, 1974, Bethel #65 was instituted in Belle, Missouri, and subsequently on the day, initiated and installed 27 excited young ladies with Melanie Ridenhour installed as Honored Queen. The town of Belle consists of only 1200 people, but that day, an outsider would have thought it was a large city, based on the number of enthusiastic girls being initiated. The ceremony took place in the old Belle school building, because there was no Masonic Temple at the time. On March 7, 1975, a new Masonic Lodge facility was dedicated and cornerstone laid in Belle, directly adjacent to the school, which was torn down soon thereafter. Bethel #65 prospered through the 70's and into the 80's, but by the end of the 80's, membership had declined and interests in Job's Daughters by the girls had dwindled. Soon thereafter, Bethel #65 closed its doors.

A couple of years later, Linda Petersen, PHQ, PGG, and her family moved to Jefferson City from Wisconsin. Upon learning that there was no Bethel in that town, she began pursuing the possibility of starting one. Kirsten, her daughter, began recruiting friends who thought they might have a Masonic relationship to be members. Linda had also recruited some adults to help form a council, and on May 17, 1992, the charter of Bethel #65 was transferred to Jefferson City for institution. A new Bethel had been formed with Kirsten Petersen as its first Honored Queen, and eight other girls being initiated.

Since 1992, the Bethel has undergone many changes. First, and most importantly, the Bethel has grown tremendously.  The council has made several changes.  Bethel #65 is comprised of excellent members and devoted adults, and are very proud of the gains they have made.  They've only just begun.

Jefferson Masonic Temple was sold in 2005 so Bethel #65 then moved to New Bloomfield Temple in New Bloomfield, Missouri.
